The 71st Annual Academy Awards were presented on March 21, 1999 in the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion in Los Angeles.
Whoopie Goldberg hosted an evening which saw "Shakespeare In Love" upset "Saving Private Ryan" to take home best picture.
It was also the year when Roberto Benigni climbed over chairs and kisses almost everyone when it was announced that he had won Best Actor for his role in "Life Is Beautiful."
