The 48th Annual Emmy Awards were presented on September 8, 1996 in the Pasadena Civic Auditorium. "ER" and "Frasier" were awarded as the outstanding drama and comedy series respectively.
Lead actors awarded with Emmys were John Lithgow (3rd Rock From the Sun), Dennis Franz (NYPD Blue), Helen Hunt (Mad About You), and Kathy Baker (Picket Fences).
