The musical "Spring Awakening" and the play "The Coast of Utopia" dominated the 61st Annual Tony Awards. "Spring Awakening" won eight Tony Awards including Best Musical. "The Coast of Utopia" won seven Tonys (a record for a play) including Best Play.
"Spring Awakening" is an edgy musical set among troubled teens in 19th century Germany. "The Coast of Utopia" was written by Tom Stoppard (his fourth Best Play Tony) and is a 'sweeping examination of 19th century Russian intellectuals'.
"Spring Awakening" had the most nominations with 11.
