Illinois incumbent DFL Governor Rod Blagojevich (pictured left) won re-election in 2006 over GOP challenger Judy Baar Topinka.
In the 2006 Illinois Congressional elections, incumbents ran in and won 17 of the 19 districts - including Jerry F Costello who ran unapposed in Illinois' 12th District. Republican Peter Roskam won the open seat in the 6th District of Illinois, while Democrat Phil Hare won the open seat in the 17th District.
