Incumbent Democrat Kent Conrad (pictured left) won re-election to the United States Senate in 2006 when he defeated Republican challenger Dwight Grotberg. He was first elected in 1986.

North Dakota's lone Representative Earl Pomeroy (DFL) also won re-election over Republican challenger Matt Mechtel.
