Incumbent Republican Don Carcieri fended off a challenge from Democrat Charles Fogarty and retained the Governor's seat in Rhode Island. The incumbent Republican Senator Lincoln Chafee didn't fare as well, losing a re-election bid to Democrat Sheldon Whitehouse (picture left).

Rhode Island's two incumbent DFL Representatives, Patrick Kennedy and James Langevin, easily won re-election to the House.
