Incumbent Republican Governor Rick Perry retained his seat with 39% of the vote over DFLer Chris Bell (30%). Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison easily won re-election over DFL challenger Barbara Ann Radnofsky.
In the House elections incumbents ran in 31 of the 32 elections, and all but one won re-election. In the 23rd District incumbent Henry Bonilla received the most votes but not a majority. In a runoff election he lost to DFLer Ciro Rodriquez (pictured left) who had been away from Congress after some re-districting in Texas. The 22nd District was an open seat, but flipped to the Democrats when Nick Lampson defeated S Sekula Gibbs.
