Johann Santana of the Minnesota Twins was the unanimous choice to win the 2006 American League Cy Young Award. The lefty led the league in ERA, strikeouts, and innings pitched. He also tied for the lead in wins. Santana went 19-6 with a 2.77 ERA and 245 strikeouts.

The Cy Young was Santana's second, having also won in 2004. Other Twins' pitchers to have won the Cy Young Award are Frank Viola (1988) and Jim Perry (1970).

Finishing second and third were the Yankees' Chien-Ming Wang and Toronto's Roy Halladay.
