Dirk Nowitzki of the Dallas Mavericks was rewarded for a stellar regular season by winning the NBA Most Valuable Player Award. The award is a small bright spot for Nowitzki after the top seeded Mavericks were bounced in the first round of the NBA Playoffs this season by the Golden State Warriors.
Dirk Nowitzki replaces Steve Nash of the Suns, who had won the award the previous two seasons and this year finished second to the 7 footer Nowitzki.
Kobe Bryant of the Lakers received two first place votes and finished third in the voting.
