Georgia Quarterback Matthew Stafford was selected first overall in the 2009 NFL Draft by the Detroit Lions. He'll try to help turn around the Lions from their disappointing 0-16 season in 2008. Stafford received a six-year deal with $41.7 million in guaranteed money.
The Rams took Baylor offensive tackle Jason Smith with the second pick, then the Chiefs took LSU defensive end Tyson Jackson.
The New York Jets traded up with Cleveland to the number five spot to grab USC quarterback Mark Sanchez.
