Mine That Bird, a 51-1 longshot, won the 135th running of the Kentucky Derby under jockey Calvin Borel. It was the second largest upset in Derby history. Only Donerail in 1913 faced larger odds.
Mine That Bird clocked in at 2:02.66 on the sloppy 1 1/2 mile track and won by 6 3/4 lengths.
Mine That Bird's trainer was Bennie Woolley Jr and the owner is the Double Eagle Farm and Buena Suerte Equine. Woolley became the seventh trainer since 2000 to win the Kentucky Derby in his first try.
The morning of the race, favorite I Want Revenge was scratched due to swelling in the left front ankle.
