Serena Williams won her second consecutive Australian Open title and fifth overall when she defeated Justin Henin 6-4, 3-6, 6-2. It was the 12th Grand Slam singles title for Williams - tying Billie Jean King.
Henin, who was unseeded and unranked while starting a comeback, had defeated four seeded players on her way to the final. She had won the Australian Open in 2004.
