Women's Figure Skating has been a staple of the Winter Olympics since the early 1900s. It is now one of the most popular events.

The event has two parts - short program and the free skate which include mandatory skills. The judges score the skaters on technical merit and presentation.

Gold Medal winners often become celebrities, including Kristi Yamaguchi, Peggy Fleming, and Dorothy Hamill. Kim Yu-Na of South Korea won the Gold Medal in 2010.
