Frenchwoman Amelie Mauresmo won her first grand slam title at the 2006 Australian Open when finals opponent Justine Henin-Hardenne had to withdraw due to an illness during the second set. Mauresmo actually won three matches from opponents conceding, but she was the dominant player and deserved to win the 2006 Australian Open.
