Halle Berry was born on August 14, 1966 in Cleveland, Ohio. It is said Halle was named for Halle's Department Store in Cleveland.
Halle Berry attended Bedford High School, where she was very popular and successful. Before her career in Hollywood, she was successful on the beauty pageant circuit. She was runner-up in the Miss USA pageant in 1986.
Her first big break in motion pictures was the role of Vivian in Spike Lee's "Jungle Fever." In 2002, she became the first African American woman to win the Best Actress Academy Award for "Monster's Ball." On the other end of the spectrum she received a Razzie for the movie "Catwoman."
