1968-09-25 -
Willard Christopher Smith II was born September 25, 1968 in west Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was admitted to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, but chose to pursue acting instead.
He struck it big in the recording industry first, as one half of DJ Jazz Jeff & the Fresh Prince. As their big album titled stated, "He's the DJ, I'm the Rapper." They had several hits, including "Parents Just Don't Understand," and "Summertime."
In 1990 television took notice of his charisma and NBC produced The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, which ran for six seasons. While still appearing as Fresh Prince, he filmed his first movies - including "Six Degrees of Separation" and "Bad Boys."
In 1996, he appeared in his first blockbuster film, "Independence Day." Another blockbuster, "Men In Black" followed. He went on to appear in more films, including "I Robot", "Ali" (for which he received an Academy Award nomination), and "The Pursuit of Happyness", and "Hancock."
His recording career re-blossomed in the late 90s, with hits such as "Men In Black", "Gettin' Jiggy Wit It", and "Switch."
Will Smith is currently married to Jada Pinkett and he has three children, one by a previous marriage to Sharee Zampino.
