Charlize Theron was born August 7, 1975 in Benoni, South Africa where her parents owned a construction company. Theron attended boarding school in South Africa. When she was fifteen her mother shot her alcoholic father in self-defense.
Theron began modeling in Italy at age 16, and later ended up in New York studying ballet. At 18 Charlize Theron moved to L.A. and got her first minor movie role in "Children of the Corn III".
Box office successes followed including "The Devil's Advocate", "Mighty Joe Young", and "The Legend of Bagger Vance". Theron's career skyrocketed with critical acclaim for her role in "Monster" - which won her an Academy Award for Best Actress.
Theron, now a US citizen, continues to make films including "AEon Flux," "North Country," and "Hancock."
