Kobe Bean Bryant was born in Philadelphia in 1978, son of former NBA player Joe Bryant. Young Kobe spent some time in Italy while his father played basketball in Europe.

Bryant excelled playing basketball for Lower Merion High School in Philadelphia, and was drafted right after high school as the 13th overall pick by the Charlotte Hornets. The Hornets then traded the rights to Bryant to the Lakers, and the rest is history.

Kobe Bryant became an NBA superstar for the Lakers and won three NBA Championships with the Lakers along with Shaquille O'Neal.

He was the 2008 NBA Most Valuable Player.
