Kim Clijsters was born in 1983 in Belgium. She turned pro in 1997 and broke through in 1999. Clijsters won her first Grand Slam title at the 2005 US Open. Her first finals appearance was in the 2001 French Open.
In 2007 she retired briefly, had a child, and upon her return won the 2009 US Open.
