Timothy Teodore Duncan was born April 25, 1976 in St Croix - in the US Virgin Islands. Tim Duncan was first an avid swimmer, but later turned to basketball around the 9th grade. Duncan excelled at the sport and played his college basketball at Wake Forest. At Wake Forest Duncan was named an All-American and won the John Wooden Award.
Tim Duncan was the first overall draft pick by the San Antonio Spurs in the 1997 NBA Draft, where he was immediately paired with All-Star David Robinson. The Spurs went on to win the NBA Championship in 1999, and again later in 2003, 2005 and 2007.
Duncan, nicknamed "The Big Fundamental", has been the NBA MVP twice.
