Roger Federer was born August 8, 1981 in Switzerland, where he grew up and still resides. His father was Swiss-German and his mother was South African.
Federer started playing tennis at the age of six and won the Wimbledon Juniors title in 1998. He turned pro later that year, and won his first tournament on the pro tour in 2001 in Milan.
Roger Federer won his first Grand Slam tournament at Wimbledon in 2003. He has now won 13 Grand Slam titles and counting.
