Derek Sanderson Jeter was born June 26, 1974 in Pequannock, New Jersey. He attended Kalamazoo Central High School where he was a standout in basketball as well as baseball. Jeter won several 1992 high school player of the year awards.
Jeter was selected 6th overall in the 1992 amateur draft by the Yankees and spent four years in the minor leagues. He was named Minor League Player of the Year in 1994.
Derek Jeter was called up to the majors for a short stint in 1995, but became a regular in the Yankees lineup starting in 1996. Jeter has been an all-star player for the Yankees ever since and was part of their four World Series championships from 1996 - 2000.
