Mar 14, 1960 - Mar 6, 2006
Kirby Puckett was born March 14, 1960 in Chicago, IL. He showed no signs of baseball greatness while in high school. He was drafted in the first round by the Minnesota Twins after playing with Triton College in Illinois.
Kirby Puckett was promoted to the major leagues after less than two years in the minors, and collected four hits in his first major league game. Puckett was a member of the 1987 and 1991 World Series Champion Twins. He collected six Gold Gloves, was named to ten consecutive All-Star Games, and is a member of the Baseball Hall of Fame.
The career of Kirby Puckett was cut short just before the 1996 season when he was diagnosed with glaucoma. He officially retired after several failed surgeries to restore his sight. In 2006, just days before his 46th birthday, Kirby Puckett died after suffering a massive stroke.
