Serena Williams was born in 1981 in Saginaw, Michigan. The family moved to California when the children were still young and Serena took up tennis at a very young age.
She turned pro in 1995, and won her first professional tournament in 1999.
Starting with the French Open in 2002, Serena Williams won four consecutive grand slam titles. She has won eleven grand slam singles titles to date.
