Mitchell David Albom was born in 1958 in New Jersey. He first tried to become a musician, but while living in New York he started working in journalism. In 1985 Albom was hired as the lead sports columnist for the Detroit Free Press.
After several sports books, Albom broke through as a mainstream author with "Tuesdays With Morrie" in 1997.
