Eminem was born Marshall Bruce Mathers III on October 17, 1972 in St Joseph, Missouri. He spent his childhood back and forth between the St Louis area and the Detroit area. He had a difficult childhood with his father leaving before he was two years old, leaving he and his mother to struggle through financial troubles.
Before dropping out of high school, he met his future wife Kim. Their daughter Hailie was born in 1996. Eminem married Kim in 1999, although the later split up.
As a rap/hip-hop recording artist, the music of Eminem has been filled with extreme controversy with a smattering of extreme love and devotion shown to his daughter. His lyrics are often angry, introspective, and autobiographical. He broke into the mainstream in 1999 with the release of his cd, The Slim Shady LP. Eminem followed that with The Marshall Mathers LP in 2000, The Eminem Show in 2002, and Encore in 2004. A greatest hits package called Curtain Call was released in late 2005.
Eminem starred in the somewhat autobiographical motion picture "8 Mile", for which he won an Academy Award for Best Song ("Lose Yourself").
