John Clayton Mayer was born October 16, 1977 in Fairfield, Connecticut where he grew up. He started playing guitar as a teenager and was in a band called Villanova Junction.
Mayer had a short stint at the Berklee College of Music in Boston before moving to Atlanta and focus on his music career. He played in a two-man band called the LoFi Masters with friend Clay Cook. In 1999 John Mayer recorded an EP called "Inside Wants Out" - which helped him to get signed by Columbia Records.
His first major label album "Room For Squares" was a commercial and critical success. Mayer's follow-up "Heavier Things" had similar success. Success continued with 2006's "Continuum".
